From the Global Sports Forum, Barcelona

March 10th, 2010.

Global Strategist, Nick Gates is in Barcelona attending the Global Sports Forum where Coaches across Continents are a featured finalist organization for their work in Sport and Education.  Presentations from heads of industry, Olympic athletes and leading politicians discuss the power of sport and the global impact of sport, athletes and events over three days.

For the first time at the forum, global leaders in Sport for Social Development have been recognized for their work ’ on the field’ and it is great to see 4 of our community partners also being selected for awards.  SEP in Kenya, Play Soccer Africa, WhizzKids United, South Africa and Alive ad Kicking are all nominated programs demonstrating their great work in African communities.

The forum got off to a snowy start when Barcelona experienced the worst ice/snow storm in decades and the three days have been full of challenging presentations and discussions on how sport can have an even great social impact.  We are using this time to have some great discussions with our partners and to learn from some of the experts in the sport for social development sector.
