It’s 8:30am, and Jessica and I are fighting our way through NYC on our way to the airport. After saying goodbye to family yesterday and seeing some friends for dinner last night, we are finally about to start our trip to Tanzania. The past few weeks have been busy with preparations, from planning and researching to fundraising and receiving immunizations. Over the last couple days though, the itinerary really started to crystallize: we met with Nico Achimpota, the Chamwino Sports Officer from Tanzania who will be our liason/ambassador/lifeline for the next month, and mapped out our specific timeline for the next few weeks.
After leaving NYC and stopping in Dubai for a brief layover, we will arrive in Dar Es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania, on Friday afternoon. There we will rendezvous with Nathan Noble, another American coach who will be with us throughout the trip. (Nate arrived on Wednesday, so hopefully he will have the lay of the land already). The three of us will then set off for Kigoma on Saturday morning, taking a 3-hour flight from Dar on the east coast to Kigoma on the west. Nico will meet us at the Kigoma airport, and before we know it, we’ll be on the field coaching!
For now though, it’s time to check in for our flight and be on our way. See you on the other side!
