XL Soccer has continued its support for Coaches across Continents by sending two of their coaching staff to Njombe, Tanzania to run our Hat-Trick Initiative. Graeme and Mark spent 8 hours a day for ten days on the fields of Njombe working with over 30 local teachers in the morning and over 100 local children in the evenings.
The Njombe partnership is the result of the hard work of local coaches Nico and Denis who have worked with Coaches across Continents to develop this new initiative.
The XL Soccer coaches worked on our full life skill ‘Chance to Choice’ curriculum including HIV education. The local teachers were taught how soccer can be used for education and social change over the course of 35 hours of training. Games like Circle of Friends, Ronaldo, Ronaldo Revolution, Marta Relay and Condom Tag showed how games themselves are the teachers. At the end of the Year 1 program, the local teachers were awarded a Coaches across Continents Certificate showing that they had completed the course.
“We had a great time with everyone in Njombe. The local teachers worked hard every day to learn how soccer can be a teaching tool and to learn more than 50 new games that they can play in their schools. Each morning we taught the teachers the games and then in the afternoons they had to work with us and the children to learn how to teach the games. And finally, the last two days were set up so that the teachers were the leaders on the fields and they taught each other the games and styles of teaching. They were excellent.” Graeme, XL/Coaches across Continents Coach.
XL Soccer World, Raleigh and XL Soccer World, Orlando provided great support to the program both on and off the field by raising money and awareness for the work of the two XL coaches. For more information go to: http://www.xltravel.com/
