Special Olympics Namibia’s (SON) headquarters is situated in Katatura, a  neighborhood of the capital city Windhoek, and hosts one of FIFA’s Football for Hope Centers. SON has set a goal to integrate athletes with and without intellectual disabilities to break the barriers of stereotyping and to foster social inclusion. SON is working to provide for both populations through sports based program that specifically target health, sports and education.

With three small buildings for administration and meetings and sport facilities such as a basketball court and a small artificial soccer field, SON organizes practices for schools for intellectually disabled children, events for the community such as “Special Smiles” day (free dental screening offered by local dentists) or “Opening Eyes” and “Fit Feet” days and sends teams to the Special Olympics World Games. The soccer field is also open to the community when there are no practices taking place.

During the two-week programs, CAC worked with SON coaches and administrators as well as coaches from other organizations, teachers from schools for intellectually disabled children and students from the community. CAC has also conducted several sessions at the primary schools with intellectually disabled athletes. The partnership has been very beneficial to both partners through sharing and learning new ways for life skill development for players with intellectual disabilities. SON has been growing and expanding steadily with at least seven different sub-programs established throughout Namibia. In 2013, for the third year of the Hat-Trick Initiative CAC plans on visiting these sub-programs.
